Do You Want the Bad News or the Bad News First?

By Robert Perrego, at 4:05 am on April 8th, 2009

The Treasury is delaying the release of the results of the bank stress tests until after earnings season as they do not want to ‘complicate’ things.  Hey, we would not want Wall Street challenged by any tough math problems or a long day at work right?

If the results were good they would throw them out there before any bad earnings reports slammed the market.

If they are bad they would probably not want the ‘Do you want the bad news or the bad news first?’ situation.

Uh oh…

Take your job (TARP money) and shove it…

So the US Taxpayer gets nailed with debt and government spending to bail out the banks and everyone gets pissed off.  Why is the taxpayer bailing out these fat-cat banks all the common people ask, and rightfully so.

The politicians all rumble and make noise about how evil the banks and their CEO’s are, and how this is PUBLIC MONEY!  Shame on you Mr. Banker!

So riddle me this Batman – why is it that when some of these big banks want to PAY THE TAXPAYERS MONEY BACK – Obama won’t let them?

Of Nuclear Disarmament and North Korea’s Ballistic Missile Test

By Robert Perrego, at 6:20 pm on April 5th, 2009

Tossing this into the ironic (and totally not funny) category, as Obama was preparing to speak overseas about ridding the world of nuclear weapons, North Korea launched a ‘communications’ missile.  North Korea maintains that they successfully launched a communications satellite into orbit while the United States and South Korea say the missile and its payload splashed down in the Pacific Ocean.

In 2006 North Korea attempted an unsuccessful test of its missile technology with the results being about 47 seconds of flight before landing in the ocean.  This test was denounced by the United Nations in Resolution 1718 by the international community.

North Korea contends their launches are peaceful and done in order to place a communications satellite in orbit.  As the technology to launch a satellite and deliver a nuclear payload are pretty much the same, and giving North Korea’s continued pursuit of the development of a nuclear bomb, their claims of ‘peaceful’ purposes is pretty thin.

With a new U.S. President widely viewed as soft on defense this seems to be a direct challenge to Obama, particularly as its launch time was barely hours before Obama was to speak about global disarmament on the world stage.

When he was still a Vice Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden stated that Obama would be challenged in this way.  Seems something Biden said made sense after all.

An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council was held Sunday with no immediate action taken.  As expected, China, a permanent member of the Security Council, tamped down reaction by the U.N.

OK, Heads we save Darfur, Tails we save the New York Times

By Robert Perrego, at 2:51 am on April 3rd, 2009

Who said the people at the New York Times act overly important?  New York Times executive editor Bill Keller decided  to put everything in perspective as to how important the New York Times is in relation to worldwide issues…

“Saving the New York Times now ranks with saving Darfur as a high-minded cause.”

Uhhhh yeah, right.

How much did he have to drink?  I thought the 23 martini lunch was no longer tolerated.
